The Houthi movement commemorates this date as the anniversary of what they call the 21 September Revolution, which marked their control of Sana'a and the subsequent flight of President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi's government. A few months later, in March 2015, a Saudi Arabia-led coalition intervened militarily to restore the government, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths, the displacement of over four million people, extensive destruction of the country’s infrastructure, and pushing millions to the brink of famine.
