Wide shot of the Columbia space shuttle sitting aboard a launch pad with ignitions fired. There is a huge plume of smoke billowing out from under the shuttle and to its left. Connected to the shuttle is the red external tank, two white solid rocket boosters, and the large scaffolding that allows astronauts and engineers to enter the shuttle. The sky is clear blue. Two seconds into the shot, the shuttle lifts off into the sky. As it is about to leave the scope of the steady shot, the shot fades to a very wide shot that zooms out from beginning to end of the entire scene. We see the rocket lifting higher and higher with the orange glow of firing engines beneath it, as well as the huge plume of smoke that covers a large amount of area on the ground. Shot then fades into a close up tracking shot of the rocket as it spirals into the sky.
