Wetland in E.Tunisia under threat of extinction due to pollution
NABEUL, TUNISIA - MAY 31: A wetland in the Nabeul province of Tunisia have been facing danger of extinction caused by environmental waste and pollution.
Located in the eastern territory of the country, the 12-hectare Korba basin is a migration point for many bird species including flamingos, hawks, and small ducks.
Korba Basin whose history goes back to ancient ages is also a vital livelihood for the locals in the area.
According to the President of the Korba Nature and Environment Conservation Association, Huda Bufaid, as the population has grown in the region, human-induced pollution has also increased.
Some parts of the basin are constructed upon with houses and plants, a challenging condition that escalates environmental pollution in the area.
While the habitants of the area are given education by the local authorities to prevent environmental pollution, the area is about to lose the struggle against extinction. (Footage by Arbi Mahjoubi/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
