Malaysian volunteers raise environmental awareness by collecting garbage from beaches

TIOMAN ISLAND, MALAYSIA - SEPTEMBER 25: Voluntary organizations operating as part of the International Beach Cleaning (ICC) initiative in Malaysia, raise environmental awareness by cleaning some of the crowded beaches in the country every year. The organizations annually cleaning Port Dickson, Mantanani and Sibu-Tinggi Islands beach, train divers to clean the waste in the sea. Anadolu Agency Video News (AAVN) videoed the annual event of cleaning waste from Tioman Island. A total of 132 environmental volunteers and 6 divers decided to clean the beaches of Tioman Island on Malaysia's west coast this year. They cleared the island's beaches of 400 kilograms of waste after 5 hours of work. Volunteers collected many glasses and plastic bottles and packages, grind the glass bottles with a machine and turned them into the sand and recycled them to nature. Reef Check Malaysia volunteer Chen Sue Yee who is living on the island since 2015 to run Reef Check's operations, said The number of island residents who support the activities we have done so far is increasing every year. This is a problem that affects not only Malaysia or a region, but the whole world and people. Noting that they collected a total of 5,84 waste from the beaches on the island this year, Chen said, These wastes consist of 1520 cigarette butts, 543 plastic bottles, 303 plastic bags, 248 plastic food containers and 206 packagings. substances that can remain in nature for hundreds of years and cannot be recycled by themselves.
