Kappa mascot from Saitama pulls up to win annual popularity contest
Video footage taken on Nov. 18 in Higashi-Osaka, Osaka Prefecture, shows the winning entrants in Yuru-kyara Grand Prix, an annual contest of local mascots, including the champion Kaparu, which represents the city of Shiki, Saitama Prefecture. The green creature, inspired by kappa mythological water sprite, garnered a total of 889,346 votes, including those cast by visitors, to come up on top from the provisional fourth place based on an online ballot before the two-day event. Kaparu is employed to promote Shikis cultural and sports activities.
