Children’s Day Event Offers Whale-Sized Carp Streamer for families to walk through
Video footage taken on May 5 in Kusu, Oita Prefecture, shows families walking through a giant windsock representing a carp erected to mark Children’s Day. The carp streamer measuring 60 meters in length with a girth of 24 meters was set up as part of a celebration of children’s stories first held in 1950 in honor of Kusu native Takehiko Kurushima (1874-1960), who was known as Japan’s own Hans Christian Andersen.
