Video footage taken on July 31 shows ERICA, a humanoid robot, responding to an interviewer’s questions during an demonstration held at the Miraikan Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Tokyo’s Koto Ward. Developed and refined by researchers from Osaka University and Kyoto University, ERICA can recognize its interviewer’s position and converse and make hand gestures with the aid of cameras and microphones set up around its environment. The joint team also showed off for the first time a 120-centimeter-tall mobile robot, Ibuki, which moves on wheels and is also able to speak.
