Elementary schoolgirl go player not yet 10 years old takes on multi-title champion on his home turf
Video footage taken on Jan. 6 shows elementary schoolgirl Sumire Nakamura, who will debut as the youngest professional go player ever in Japan in spring when she turns 10, facing off against Yuta Iyama, 29, title holder of five of the seven major go competitions in Japan at a match held in Higashiosaka, Osaka Prefecture, the hometown of Iyama. The young challenger sat atop two cushions to reach the playing board but put her opponent in a tight spot early in the game, only to subsequently lose momentum as Iyama fought back. The match ended unfinished as time ran out.
