Mobile emergency room makes debut in Sapporo
Video footage taken on Feb. 4 in Sapporo shows a "mobile intensive care unit" for transporting and treating novel coronavirus patients and others diagnosed as seriously ill. The vehicle, introduced by Sapporo Medical University Hospital, is equipped with an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) unit, X-ray machine, ventilator and surgical equipment. The mobile emergency room, remodeled from a small truck, is the first of its kind to be deployed in the northern main island of Hokkaido, although 10 or so are in service elsewhere in Japan.
