Mighty women lift 90-kilogram rice cakes to bring peace in Kyoto
Video footage taken on Feb. 23 at Daigoji temple in Kyoto, recognized as a World Heritage site, shows a ceremony where participants try to lift a pair of giant "mochi" rice cakes. Meant as offering for peace and happiness, the ritual laid out two stacks of red and white mochi, one set weighing 150 kilograms for men and the other 90 kilograms for women, that 26 challengers, the oldest being in their 60s, tried to hold up for as long as five minutes.
