Maebashi hobbyist surrounds house with miniature versions of Japan’s UNESCO-recognized world heritage sites
Video footage taken on April 23 in Maebashi shows resident Susumu Hara, 75, showing off his display of 17 UNESCO-recognized cultural heritage sites recreated in miniature and crowded under the eaves of his house. A security guard, Hara began displaying his miniatures in 2004 and currently spends two hours each morning and two hours each evening creating more. Among the structures he has spent months modeling are castles, watermills and temples such as Kinkakuji, Kiyomizudera and Todaiji. His works which light up and move have become a topic of conversation with neighbors and strangers alike to brighten his life, he says. (Tsuin Cho)
