Rubber Ball Girl’ Murakami Bouncy on her Return from Gymnastics World Championships
Video footage taken in Tokyo on Oct. 11 shows Mai Murakami, winner of the gold medal in the women’s floor exercise at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, speaking to the press after returning from the event in Montreal. Murakami, a 21 year-old university student, became the first Japanese female gymnast to step on the top tier of the winners’ podium in the world championships in 63 years. The beaming Murakami ranked her Montreal performance as her best since entering university and pledged to polish her skills even more. Murakami has been called “rubber ball girl” by some because of her flexibility and resilience.
