Numbers Down As Salmon Run-up In Fukushima Hits Peak Season

Video footage taken in Naraha, Fukushima Prefecture, shows local fishermen working together to net salmon heading up the shallow waters of the Kidogawa River during peak season. Video was shot on november 4, 2016,Japan. Fishing in the river notable for its salmon was halted in 2011 after the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant accident, but was resumed last year. In the interim members of the local fishing cooperative were unable to artificially hatch salmon roe, resulting in fewer fish and a smaller catch than in the years before the accident. The video also shows fishermen collecting roe from salmon they have gathered.
