Refurbished Fukuyama Castle soon to reopen to public to mark 400-year anniversary
Video footage taken by an aerial drone on June 17 shows the newly renovated exterior of Fukuyama Castle in Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture. Initially constructed in 1622 and destroyed by fire following an aerial bombing in 1945, the structure saw its tenshu tower rebuilt in concrete in 1966. In the renovation, the walls of the northern side of the tower were covered with steel sheets to reproduce the original appearance of the castle, which will mark the 400th anniversary of its construction. The castle is scheduled to open to the public on Aug. 28. The video footage was taken by Jun Ueda and Shiro Nishihata of The Asahi Shimbun.
