Shinkansen themed on ‘Neon Genesis Evangelion’ to Make Final Run
Video footage shows the interior and exterior of the West Japan Railway Co.’s 500 Type Eva, a 500 series Shinkansen bullet train themed around the hugely popular robot sci-fi "Neon Genesis Evangelion" TV series and liveried in the distinctive neon purple and yellow of the program. The Type Eva was launched into service in November 2015 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Sanyo Shinkansen Line and the 20th anniversary of the first broadcast of the program. It was originally expected to run until last spring but a flood of interest from fans pushed back the retirement to May 13, when the train will make its last round trip between Hakata and Shin-Osaka stations.
