Big Cats Set to Return to Kumamoto Zoo in October
Video footage shows the exotic wild felines that were evacuated from the Kumamoto City Zoological and Botanical Gardens after their enclosures at facility were damaged caused by a large earthquake that hit Kumamoto Prefecture and surrounding regions in April 2016. It was announced on Aug. 27 that the big cats, which relocated also to and spare them from aftershocks, will be brought back to the city-run zoo after having spent the past two and half years in others facilities in Oita and Fukuoka prefectures. Among the five evacuated cats are a male lion—which will return with a newfound mate--a Siberian tiger, a clouded leopard and snow leopard. The Kumamoto zoo is expected to fully reopen when the cats are welcomed home
