Two women who were enjoying the view from Bear Mountain, near Victoria in British Columbia, said they had a surreal experience on August 24, when a "full grown" cougar strolling around the neighborhood passed their car. The encounter was recorded by Harmonie Spalding, and shows the mountain lion appearing in the distance, and walking towards the car. In the background, Spalding and her friend Ekaterina Chuvashova can be heard hesitating between awe and fright as the animal passes right by the car, jokingly comparing it to their house cats. Spalding told Storyful that she had never seen a cougar before and found the experience "surreal", "really exciting and nerve-wracking," with Chuvashova adding that the encounter "illuminated the resilience of wildlife in adapting to changing landscapes."
