U.S. search and rescue team arrives in earthquake-hit Adana, Türkiye

ADANA, TÜRKIYE - FEBRUARY 9: Two Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams supporting the operations of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) arrived in Türkiye’s southern province of Adana on Thursday (Feb. 9) to support the relief efforts after devastating earthquakes. Two C-17 Globemaster III aircraft of the US Air Force carrying 159 USAR personnel, 12 sniffer dogs and approximately 77 tons of special equipment under the coordination of the US Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), US European Command (USEUCOM) and US European Air Force (USAFE), landed at the Incirlik Air Base. The teams from Los Angeles and Fairfax, Virginia were welcomed by US Ambassador to Ankara Jeff Flake and his wife Cheryl Flake. At least 16,170 people were killed and 64,194 others injured by two strong earthquakes that jolted southern Türkiye on Monday, the country's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday. The magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes, centered in the Kahramanmaras province, were felt by 13 million people across 10 provinces, also including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, and Sanliurfa. Several countries in the region, including Syria and Lebanon, felt strong tremors that struck Türkiye in the space of less than 10 hours. (Footage by Jenna A.
