New Bullet Train Stations Pre-Opened For Locals In Hokkaido
HOKKAIDO, JAPAN – JUL. 12: Two new stations along the latest extension of Japan's super-fast Shinkansen bullet train service in Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost main island were pre-opened for local residents Saturday July 11 and Sunday July 12. At Kikonai station, in Kikonai town, due to be completed on July 24, some 180 people joined the inspection. Meanwhile, about 500 residents were allowed into Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto station in Hokuto, which will be completed in September. The Hokkaido Shinkansen will start operation in March next year as the first Shinkansen connecting Honshu, the largest main island, and Hokkaido through world's longest underwater Seikan -- Aomori-Hakodate -- Tunnel.
