ISTANBUL, TURKEY - SEPTEMBER 23: Turning into a piece of art in the hands of sculptors, reborn dolls are being used by Alzheimer patients, women who lost their babies or those desiring to have a baby to feel better as their extremely realistic appearance. Speaking to Anadolu Agency Reborn artist Elena Redneva said the term "reborn doll" comes from the fact that the dolls that were produced as a kit are brought to life by paints, lines and felt. She said that the most significant trait of reborn dolls that increase their sense of reality is transmitting the temperature of human body by absorbing the holder's temperature and emitting it back. “As reborn dolls are vinyl-based it’s not included chemical materials and it is transmitting the temperature of human body by absorbing the holder's temperature and emitting it back. As a result it gives sense of new born baby,� she added. She stressed that for that reason reborn baby dolls also used by Alzheimer patients, women who lost their babies and mother candidates. The dolls attract collectors around the world, and are used at the sets of movies, TV series, and advertisements. Becoming more widespread worldwide, the making of reborn dolls have been taught at Nara Fine Arts Studio in Kadikoy district of Turkish metropolis Istanbul. Trainees learn the details regarding the making of the reborn baby dolls, from painting to baking, followed by drawing lines and forming hair and eyebrows in a six-day-course. Seyda Muhammed Yari, a trainee, said a reborn dolls gives peace and very good feelings when she hold it. Another trainee a doll designer, Atefeh Beikzadeh said: “It looks a real baby. I was seeing on pictures and people were holding them. I wanted to attend this course to feel that feelings.� With their prices ranging from $225 to $10,000, reborn babies are regarded as a work of art, a handmade collection item rather than a doll.
