Turkish president arrives in Qatar for World Cup final
DOHA, QATAR - DECEMBER 18: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Qatar’s capital Doha on Sunday, Dec. 18, to attend the 2022 FIFA World Cup closing ceremony.
At the invitation of Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Erdogan will also watch the final game this evening between France and Argentina.
On Nov. 20, Erdogan, a semi-professional football player in his youth, attended the World Cup opening ceremony in Qatar, where he met with world leaders.
As part of bilateral security cooperation, Ankara deployed more than 3,000 police officers and security personnel to provide security along with their Qatari counterparts for the world’s premier football tournament. (Footage by Turkish Presidency/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
