Train derailment in Mexico kills migrant child, injures several others
CIUDAD JUAREZ, MEXICO - SEPTEMBER 4: A tragic train derailment late Tuesday night near kilometer 302 of the Ahumada-Ciudad Juarez highway in Mexico has claimed the life of a migrant child and injured several others.
Twelve train cars derailed, causing dozens of migrants on board the train to fall.
The National Migration Institute (INM) confirmed injuries to a Nicaraguan migrant and three members of a Venezuelan family. The missing 4-year-old boy from the Venezuelan family was found dead under a wagon Wednesday morning.
The INM is coordinating with Nicaraguan and Venezuelan consular authorities to provide aid to the victims and facilitate family transfers to Mexico.
The train, carrying chemicals, reported a sulfuric acid leak, activating the Army's emergency Plan DN-III-E.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the derailment, highlighting the risks migrants face in their perilous journey for a better life.
