Sweets Makers Bring Fast And Furious Rice-pounding To Kumamoto Quake Victims
A traditional Japanese sweets shop in Nara famed for its fast and furious rice-pounding will take to the road on June 22 and 23 to show off its skills and serve mochi rice cakes to residents of quake-hit Nishihara village in Kumamoto Prefecture. Video was shot on June 11, 2016 in Nara,Japan. 
Mitsuo Nakatani, 53, owner of the shop Nakatanido, flips a blob of freshly steamed sticky rice in a mortar as his assistant pounds at it with a wooden sledgehammer, turning the mass into rice cakes in about two and a half minutes. At their fastest, the pair can pound and flip the mochi twice a second.
