Tour Of North Korea's Mt. Kumgang Area By Singaporean Cruise Ship Passengers Begins
MOUNT KUMGANG AREA, NORTH KOREA - MAY 21: A tour of North Korea's Mt. Kumgang area for foreign tourists on the Singaporean cruise ship Royale Star has begun, local authorities said May 21. As a project in which North Korea and South Korea organized tours of the Mt. Kumgang area has been suspended since 2008 when a South Korean female tourist was shot dead by a North Korean guard, North Korean authorities have been seeking new tourism projects in cooperation with China and others. The cruise ship left Rajin port in Rason, northeastern North Korea, on May 18 and arrived at Koson port in Kangwon Province near Mt. Kumgang on May 20.
