Residents Of Demydiv Saved One Of The Largest Private Zoos In Europe During Occupation
DEMYDIV, UKRAINE - AUGUST 26: A tiger cub rests in an aviary cage of a zoo on August 26, 2022 in Demydiv Village, Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine. The "12 Months" Zoo is one of the largest private zoos in Europe, located 37 kilometers from Kiev in the village of Demydiv. During the occupation of Kyiv Oblast, the zoo was on the verge of disaster, people continued to care for the animals in extremely difficult conditions - in the absence of power, water and heating supply, lack of food for the animals, which was collected everywhere and sometimes brought by evacuation transport. During the occupation, animals lost a lot of weight, especially predators. After the de-occupation of Oblast in April, some of the animals were taken to zoos in other Ukrainian cities, and in May, after setting up all the infrastructure communications in the zoo, they were returned. Now the animals have returned to their usual rhythm of life. All of them were saved from death. (Footage by SLM News/Global Images Ukraine via Getty Images)
