Venezuela celebrates National Dignity Day
CARACAS, VENEZUELA - APRIL 14: Thousands of Venezuelans celebrated the National Day of Dignity on Thursday, Apr, 14 to commemorate the civic-military rebellion led by former President Hugo Chavez.
During the celebration, people marched in the streets, held banners and parades were held in Caracas.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro also attended Sunday the commemoration.
"We have four million five hundred thousand militia men and women. And we have in permanent exercise with a rifle in hand, seven hundred thousand men and women are willing to defend the territory, our Homeland and its integrity," Maduro, told a large crowd.
The day is celebrated by Venezuela each year in commemoration of the uprising of the people and the military forces against then President Carlos Andres Perez. The uprising was led by Chavez, who in 1992 was a military lieutenant. (Footage by Marcos Salgado/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
