Fans pay tribute to King Pelé near his hospital in São Paulo, Brazil
This footage was filmed and produced 4 December 2022.
Brazilian football legend Pele, who was hospitalized this week amid ongoing cancer treatments, has developed a respiratory infection, but is in stable condition and "showing general improvement," his doctors said Friday.
The 82-year-old icon, who has been in fragile health in recent years, was hospitalized Tuesday in Sao Paulo for what doctors said was a "reevaluation" of the chemotherapy he has been undergoing since surgery to remove a colon tumour in September 2021.
This video shows the outside of the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital in Sao Paulo, where Pele's health is being monitored.
Interview translation:
'My name is Arlindo Marques, it is written here on the board I am a resident of the Pinheiros region in São Paulo, for me Pelé represents and will forever represent the history of football, the essence of Football, the challenge, the magic, the conclusion and the goal, Pelé brought together all these fantastic qualities of a perfect player, Pelé is almost unbelievable to say something like that, but in terms of football he reached perfection.'
