MOTION GRAPHIC - First total lunar eclipse visible worldwide in nearly three years
OUTER SPACE - MARCH 11, 2025: The US space agency NASA announced that the Moon will pass into Earth's shadow and appear to turn red on the night of March 13 or early in the morning on March 14.
NASA explained that "a lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align so that the Moon passes into Earth’s shadow."
The agency stated that during a total lunar eclipse, "the entire Moon falls within the darkest part of Earth’s shadow, called the umbra."
When this happens, "the Moon appears red-orange," leading to the nickname "Blood Moon" for lunar eclipses due to this striking phenomenon.
