PARIS, FRANCE - AUG. 7, 2025: The small village of Auvers-sur-Oise, about 50 kilometers [31 miles] from Paris, continues to attract visitors eager to see where Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh spent the final weeks of his life and found inspiration for some of his last works.In the summer of 1890, Van Gogh moved into a modest room at the Ravoux Inn in Auvers-sur-Oise, a commune surrounded by fields and winding paths that would inspire around 80 paintings before his death on July 29 of that year. He is buried in the village alongside his brother, Theo, who supported him throughout his life.Born in 1853 in Zundert, the Netherlands, Van Gogh lived in 38 different places across Belgium, the Netherlands, England and France. His works received little recognition during his lifetime but later gained acclaim under the label of Neo-Impressionism.Van Gogh arrived in Paris in 1886, where exposure to Impressionism led him to adopt brighter colors and new techniques. He exhibited his works at cafés such as La Fourche and Le Tambourin, as well as at the boutique of art dealer Père Tanguy.Struggling with mental health issues, he later sought treatment under Dr. Paul Gachet, who became the subject of one of his most recognized portraits.Today, visitors to Auvers-sur-Oise can still see many of the sites Van Gogh painted, including the town hall, the village church and the surrounding fields, which have remained largely unchanged for more than a century.(Footage by Mohamad Salaheldin Abdelg Alsayed /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
