Powerball jackpot reaches $1.7 billion, fourth largest in U.S. history
NEW YORK, U.S. - DEC. 23, 2025: The Powerball jackpot in the United States has risen to an estimated $1.7 billion after no ticket matched all six numbers in the latest drawing, lottery officials said on Tuesday, Dec. 23.The prize now ranks as the fourth-largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history. The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Wednesday.The jackpot previously surpassed $1 billion on Sept. 6, when a $1.787 billion prize was split between winning tickets sold in the states of Missouri and Texas. That drawing produced the second-largest jackpot in Powerball history, behind only the $2.04 billion prize won in November 2022, the largest lottery jackpot ever recorded worldwide.Powerball tickets cost $2 and are sold in 45 states, as well as in Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.The odds of winning the top prize are about one in 292.2 million, officials said.(Footage by Lokman Vural Elibol /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
