Popular Bear Mascot Kumamon Resumes Activities in Quake-Hit Area
KUMAMOTO, JAPAN - MAY 5: The popular black bear character Kumamon resumes activities as the official mascot of Kumamoto on May 5, 2016, three weeks after the southwestern Japanese prefecture was devastated by the first of two major earthquakes. As it was Children's Day, a national holiday in Japan, Kumamon surprised and delighted children by appearing at Grandmesse Kumamoto, an exhibition hall in Mashiki where many people continue to sleep in their cars at night instead of their homes due to fears of more quakes.
