Sleeper Train Attracts Huge Crowd As Countdown Enters Final Phase

HOKKAIDO, JAPAN – AUG. 18: The only serving long distance sleeper train connecting Tokyo and northern main-island Hokkaido is luring a large number of fans as the service is finally ending in a few days time. The special summer services of the Hokutosei, The Big Dipper, sleeper train run by Hokkaido Railway Co., JR Hokkaido, from Sapporo to Tokyo are attracting photographers along the railroads or fans intended to see it off at stations. The service started in 1988 after the completion of undersea Seikan Tunnel that year but due to end on August 22 as JR Hokkaido plans to inaugurate the faster daytime bullet train in March next year.
