Famous mosaic museum in T羹rkiyes quake-hit region amazes visitors with ancient artifacts
GAZIANTEP, TRK襤YE - OCT. 1: The number of visitors of world-famous mosaic museum in Gaziantep, which was hit by the 7.6-magnitude Kahramanmaras earthquake, has reached its previous density of visitors again in the autumn.
Zeugma Mosaic Museum, which hosts many world-famous works and was closed for 74 days after the earthquakes, welcomes visitors with increasing number of tours, recently.
Giving information about the museum, Head of Zeugma Museum Ozgur Comak said, In addition to the internationally known Gypsy Girl mosaic, our museum also includes very important mosaics that are the subject of Roman and Greek mythology, such as Oceanus, Tethys, and the birth of Aphrodite, and especially glass tesserae (cubes).
"In fact, approximately 2,200 people visited the museum in one and half day, as of Sunday. This figure shows that we have reached the same numbers compering to the same period last year, he added.
The Zeugma Mosaic Museum opened in 2011 and is one of the worlds largest mosaic museums. It holds unique ancient artifacts such as mosaics, Roman-era fountains, a bronze sculpture of Mars the god of war in Roman mythology and the famed Gypsy Girl.
The mosaics, survived the earthquakes that hit southern T羹rkiye on Feb. 6 undamaged.
The historical Roman-era columns still stand strong in the ruins of the ancient city of Zeugma in Gaziantep, one of the 11 provinces hit hardest by the quakes.
More than 13 million people in T羹rkiye have been affected by the devastating quakes as well as many in northwestern Syria.
