Cleo Laine on nationality and freedom of movement, UK; 1959

The jazz musician Cleo Laine, being interviewed at a meeting of the Stars Campaign for Interracial Friendship (SCIF), responds to a question about the White Defence League's view that anyone who isn't considered white should be 'repatriated'. Asked, 'And you have no other country?', she says, 'No, not at all. I'm very happy here, and I've lived very happily here. And as far as I know, so has my father. And I don't see why he shouldn't - after all, he did fight for the country, like so many others. And I think that they should be allowed to live - well everyone should be allowed to live - where they wish.' UK; 1959. (LCA6661A - AEVZ001J)
