VAN, TÜRKİYE - JUNE 9, 2024: The immersive video shows the migration of the pearl mullets through boisterous streams towards fresh waters in Türkiye's Lake Van. Every year, between April 15 and July 15, pearl mullets flock to the fresh waters flowing into Lake Van and continue their migration journey, overcoming obstacles that come their way. In Ercis district, where the migration can be best observed, photography enthusiasts and citizens visit the fish dam at Deli Cay and witness the fish's challenging journey, capturing the unique scene. The fish, which are prohibited from being caught during the spawning season, lay their eggs in suitable locations in fresh waters after a tough journey. Anadolu filmed the migration of the fish. The fish begin to lay their eggs when the water temperature in the streams reaches around 13 degrees. A pearl mullet lays an average of 10,000 eggs. The eggs are sticky and adhere to the rocks, pebbles, sand, and water plants at the bottom of the stream. After the fish lay their eggs in slightly pebbly, sandy areas where the streams spread and the speed drops, they return to the lake. The hatchlings begin to return to the lake within 1-2 weeks.
