Burkina Faso's junta lifts nationwide curfew

BURKINA FASO - OCTOBER 2: The country-wide curfew in Burkina Faso, which was declared after the army took over the administration, was lifted on Sunday, Oct. 2. In a junta statement signed by Captain Ibrahim Traore broadcast on state television, it was said that the curfew imposed in the country after the coup was lifted. The country’s new coup leader urged the public to refrain from acts of looting and vandalism. Calling on all people to "take action" for the safety of Burkina Faso, Traore urged the people to stand guard for the country. After Traore's call, the people began to stand guard in front of the French Embassy and military base. Late on Friday, a group of military officers headed by army Capt. Ibrahim Traore deposed Damiba, dissolved the transitional government and suspended the constitution. The takeover in the West African state was the second in less than a year, where Damiba seized power after overthrowing former President Roch Kabore in January.
