S. Korea’s 'Blue House' hosts approximately 400,000 visitors in 1.5 years

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA - RECENT, SEPTEMBER, 2023: The “Blue House” in South Korea, which has hosted 12 heads of state and was opened to the public in May last year, has welcomed approximately 400,000 visitors so far. The palace dates back to 1104 in historical records. The Blue House was constructed in 1395 following King Seonggye's indication of the need for a new palace. For centuries, the palace served as the residence and administrative center for dynastic families on the Korean Peninsula until the Japanese occupation. It was then utilized by the governor appointed to the region by Japan until 1945. Following the Japanese occupation, from 1948 to 2022, the Blue House served as the residence and office for 12 South Korean presidents. In 1968, there was an unsuccessful assassination attempt against South Korea's 3rd President, Park Chung-hee, by North Korean spies at the Blue House. The attempt resulted in the deaths of 32 South Korean and 29 North Korean members of the operation team. (Footage by Mehmet Sah Yilmaz /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
