Red Sea's Big Brother Island: A diver's paradise blending history and marine life
RED SEA - RECENT JULY, 2025: The Big Brother Islands, situated along the southern Red Sea route, continue to attract divers worldwide with their powerful currents and thriving underwater ecosystems.
Renowned for both biodiversity and submerged historical treasures, the islands offer unique dive sites, including the wrecks of the Numidia and Aida II. The Numidia, a 138-meter-long British cargo ship, sank in 1901 while transporting materials for a lighthouse construction.
Nearby lies the Aida II, which succumbed to stormy conditions. Over decades, corals have enveloped both wrecks, creating artificial reefs teeming with marine species.
Divers exploring these sites witness a rare fusion of maritime heritage and vibrant aquatic life, solidifying the islands’ status as a premier global diving destination.(Footage by Tahsin Ceylan/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
