Tom Hanks on the Best And Worst Parts of Being a Film Actor
Hanks: the best thing is the variety that it gives you. You end up going to a lot of different places. You end up shooting something different everyday that you don’t have to go back and shoot again. You end up working with people for a very concentrated period of time that you become friends with then they disappear and you never see them again until they are working on another movie with you. That’s actually the most exciting part about it. The most difficult part of that is the Satanist that is locked into that with you to take a shower and drive to location and get out and have to sit in that chair and have that goopy stuff put into your face again at 6:30 in the morning when you’re hardly awake, knowing that you have huge responsibilities that you have to follow through for the rest of the day. That is the thing that really wears you down after a wile. By about the second month of shooting, a cold sponge on your face with stuff on it feels as though asparagus with mayonnaise that has been left overnight has landed on your cheek. It’s just not a pleasant sensation.
Tom Hanks: Now there is some guy that works on a road crew who digs ditches or something and is watching this interview now is saying, “What a pansy, he’s got the great life. Look at the money he’s making. And he’s complaining about making.”
Tom Hanks: It’s absolutely true, it’s absolutely true and sometimes I wish I just had a truck route where I wish I just delivered coca-cola everyday because when al the coca-cola is off the truck my job is finished. Yeah, it’s really true you will end up complaining about absolutely anything after a while with no reason to.
