Senator Cornyn notes mixed Supreme Court record in US history, quoting Lincoln before Committee action on nominee Jackson
Texas Senator John Cornyn says at Senate Judiciary Committee markup to consider reporting Supreme Court nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Senate that in the nation's history there had been something for everyone to love or hate about the Court from Plessy v Ferguson to Brown v Board of Education to Obergefell which mandated same sex marriages, and creating a right not even mention of the Constitution independence and legitimacy of the Court was called into question because consent was discarded, President Abraham Lincoln said no man is good enough to govern another man without their consent so how were unenumerated rights any different as can happen when unelected judges invalidate state laws and impose a one size fits all policy regime on the entire country, concluding all should be concerned about the legitimacy of governing institutions.
