Turner Prize 2010: Susan Philipsz interview
Turner Prize 2010: Susan Philipsz interview; Philipsz interview (continued) SOT
- Interested in how sound can define space and how it can heighten awareness of yourself within the space / When you listen to music at home you can be taken away by it, but with this sound installation that never really happens / You are listening to the sound but you are conscious of where you are in that particular place / You are never in a total state of reverie with the work when it is in a public context / In gallery context you are hearing fragments of the versions of the song but you come in and out of it / On how she became a sound artist having originally been a visiual artist / Started thinking about sound in sculptural terms / Thought about the physicality of singing and how it was a sculptural experience / Thought about how when sound is projected into space it can define a room / Seemed like a natural progression from visual sculpture to sound sculpture
