Supernova shock wave, animation - 4K stock video
Animation of a supernova producing an expanding shock wave. A supernova is the explosive death of a massive star. The event can outshine an entire galaxy for a short time. The explosion occurs when the star runs out of fuel to power its nuclear reactions. Without this energy, the core of the star collapses under its own gravity and the outer layers collapse in on it and rebound outwards. This produces a rapidly expanding shell of gas around an extremely dense and hot neutron star remnant. The shell's collision with the surrounding gas and dust causes it to glow
