'Hina' Dolls Saved From Cremation Form Spectacular Temple Display
Some 1,200 “hina” dolls, which form a magnificent sight at a temple, almost didn’t make it, as they were earmarked for “cremation rituals” before priests intervened to save them.
This clip was shot on December 25, 2015 in Fukuroi, Japan.
Visitors can now enjoy the massive 32-step, 3-by-9 meter display thanks to the priests’ determination to keep the figurines intact.
The dolls at the temple can be viewed daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through March 31. Admission is 500 yen ($4.25), or free for elementary school students or younger.
