Police lockdown in Ottawa, Canada after soldier is killed by Islamic radical
Soldier killed in an attack perpetrated by a man describes as radicalised at the Parliament Building in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The victim is Caporal Nathan Cirillo and he was on duty and in uniform at the time, guarding the National War Memorial located 300 meters east of the main entrance door of the parliament. CPR was performed on the victim laying on the ground by citizens and paramedics before he was transported to hospital where he was declared dead. A man hunt then followed and ended within the walls of the Parliament building. As heard in a video shot by a Globe and Mail photograph, over 20 shots were heard resonating. Two agents were hurt in the gunfight but with minor injuries and the suspect, Michael Zehaf-Bideau was fatally wounded. He was shot and killed by Sergeant-at-Arms Kevin Vickers who had previously ran back to his office to get a gun. For long hours hundreds of employees, college students and members of the governement were trapped and had to stay inside for safety. At the end of the evening all perimeters were lifted and people were allowed to go home. The suspect who had apparently radicalised himself had lived in Vancouver and Montreal before and could be friends with Martin Couture-Rouleau who had perpetrated a similar attack on a military staff Monday in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Today's suspect in Ottawa was also on RCMP'S 90 people watch list and had his passport removed as well. Throughout the day workers were seen exiting skyscrapers slowly one small group after the other. Special units of various police dept were on scene among them the Ottawa Police, Gatineau Police, Army Police, OPP and RCMP.
