Swakopmund, Namibia: General Imagery
SWAKOPMUND, NAMIBIA - APRIL 4: A sign that reads, in German language, "Adler Apotheke und Drogerie" (Engl.: "Eagle pharmacy and drugstore") stands by a building at the Kaiser Wilhelm Street in Swakopmund, Namibia, on April 4, 2019. Kaiser Wilhelm is a common reference to two German emperors: Wilhelm I, German Emperor between 1861 and 1888, and Wilhelm II, German Emperor between 1888 and 1918. Located on the coast of Namibia, Swakopmund is one of the most populous cities in the country and one of the best preserved examples of German colonial architecture in the world. Namibia was colonized by Germany from 1884 to 1915 and, up until this day, traces of the German culture can be observed in the country. (Footage by Christian Ender/Getty Images)
