Writers Guild Of America Strike Enters Its Seventh Week

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – JUNE 15: (EDITORS NOTE: audio/music licensing is not included.) Seth Rudetsky and Strike Accord perform as the Writers Guild of America East (WGA) hosts the Times Square ‘Broadway Day Rally' in the ongoing picket line strike on June 15, 2023 in New York City. Broadway actors and performers rallied in solidarity with the Writers Guild of America as the WGA wraps up its 7th consecutive week while delaying and disrupting television and movie productions throughout the East and West Coasts. The board of directors for the Writers Guild of America, which includes West Coast and East Coast branches, voted unanimously to call for a walkout. Negotiations between WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), a top guild and a trade association that represents Hollywood’s top studios, failed to avert the first walkout in more than 15 years. Union members have stated that they are not being paid fairly in the streaming era and are seeking a new contract - pay increases and structural changes to the business model.
