Wall frescoes and mosaic tiles found in Pompeii

Sequence of close-ups showing details of newly-discovered Roman frescoes, depicting mythological figures such as Paris and Helen of Troy, Cassandra and Apollo, painted on the black walls of an ancient Roman banquet hall in Pompeii as well as a tiled floor. When Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79AD, it buried Pompeii under 4-6 metres of volcanic ash and pumice, killing the inhabitants but largely preserving everything under the ash which now offers a unique snapshot of Roman life (BBC News 6pm Bulletin - 11/04/2024 - AEXZ288W)
