U.S. Senator John Chafee (R-RI) continues using his time by stating that environmental concern among citizens is just as high as it has ever been, despite talk of environmental laws coming under assault or being unpopular; adult Caucasian, predominantly males, seated in BG. The results of the last election is not to be interpreted as a rejection of the environment. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator, Anne Gorsuch notes that she was on the McNeal/Lehrer show where she was cited a low percentage (67%) of people that cared about the environment; middle-aged adult Caucasian male seated next to her. She counts herself among the 67% and is committed to environmental preservation. Chafee then turns to the issue of Gorsuch showing broad deference to the Office of Management and Budget on issues such as wastewater treatment construction grants, when those issues should be directly under her purview as rigorous spokesperson for the environment. Gorsuch cannot speak for David Stockman, head of the OMB, but appreciates the help of the committee with "thorny" issue of the construction grants; middle-aged adult Caucasian male seated beside her.
