Senator Schumer press statement on potential tax reform process, thawed nomination process
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York asks reporters at a weekly briefing why the Senate would go through another six months on tax reform has had culminated in failure with healthcare reform, urging, urging Republicans not to go it alone but to work with Democrats, that foregoing their dream of tax cuts for the rich and breadcrumbs for the poor would be better for the country. Schumer says the fault line in the Republican Party over healthcare was not one of Mitch McConnell, a master tactician, that at the outset, the same could occur with tax reform, asked about a critical book written by Arizona Senator Jeff Flake that he is one of the finest human beings he had ever met in politics. Asked about the statutory debt ceiling, Schumer says the key is to know where House Republicans stand before addressing the issue. Asked about confirming a slate of nominees, Schumer admits that Democrats had stalled as long as regular order was not pursued on health care reform and restored afterwards, while rushing cabinet appointees made no sense ahead of confirmation of FBI director Christopher Wray.
