Senator Mullin calls EPA review backlog before 6PPD replacement found unacceptable to get alternative chemical to market

Senate Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Chemical Safety, Waste Management, Environmental Justice, and Regulatory Oversight Ranking Member Markwayne Mullin says opening a hearing with a Washington State program manager, a US Tire Manufacturers Association representative and a chemical exposure attorney about the environmental impacts of 6PPD that the EPA's slow pace in approving new chemicals will delay the commercialization of a replacement as the agency consistently fails to meet a 60-day statutory deadline for new chemical approvals, resulting in 88% of reviews exceeding the deadline and many being paused indefinitely, which was unacceptable from both legal and domestic manufacturing perspectives and hinders the development of non-toxic replacements.
